Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Nu Sigma Pi, Recruitment, membership, and what it means to be part of our sisterhood.

What makes Nu Sigma Pi different?

Nu Sigma Pi is Ottawa's oldest local sorority, founded in 1997. We welcome students from all four post-secondary institutions in Ottawa, creating a diverse sisterhood built on friendship, leadership, philanthropy, and personal growth. As a local organization, our members have the opportunity to shape the future of our chapter while creating traditions and memories that last a lifetime.

Who can join Nu Sigma Pi?

Nu Sigma Pi welcomes undergraduate students from all four post-secondary institutions in Ottawa:

  • University of Ottawa

  • Carleton University

  • Algonquin College

  • La Cité

No matter your program, year of study, or educational path, if you're looking for friendship, leadership opportunities, and a supportive sisterhood, we'd love to meet you.

Can I join if I'm not in my first year?

Absolutely! Many of our sisters joined in their second, third, or even fourth year. Whether you're just starting your post-secondary journey or nearing graduation, it's never too late to become part of our sisterhood.

Is there a GPA requirement?

There is no minimum GPA required to join Nu Sigma Pi. However, academics are one of our top priorities, and we encourage our members to strive for academic success while supporting one another throughout their educational journey.

Can I be involved in other clubs, sports, or organizations?

Absolutely! Many of our sisters are involved in varsity and intramural sports, student associations, volunteer work, part-time jobs, and academic clubs. Being in Nu Sigma Pi is meant to complement your university experience, not replace it.

How much time does being in a sorority require?

Being a member is flexible! On average, sisters spend a few hours each week attending meetings, events, philanthropy initiatives, or spending time together.

Everyone's schedule is different, and we understand that school always comes first. Many of our members successfully balance classes, jobs, placements, athletics, and other extracurricular activities while remaining active in the sorority.

How much does it cost to join?

As a local sorority, Nu Sigma Pi has some of the most affordable membership dues on campus. Membership dues help cover chapter operations, sisterhood events, philanthropy initiatives, formal, and other activities throughout the year.

We believe finances shouldn't prevent someone from joining our sisterhood, which is why flexible payment plans are available.

What happens during Recruitment?

Recruitment is a chance for you to get to know us and for us to get to know you! Throughout the recruitment period, you'll have the opportunity to attend a variety of events, meet our members, ask questions, and learn more about what Nu Sigma Pi is all about.

There's no pressure or commitment just by attending events, and everyone is welcome to come see if our sisterhood is the right fit.

How can I stay updated on Recruitment events?

The easiest way to stay informed is by following us on Instagram @nusigmapirush, where you'll find our recruitment schedule, event information, and all of our important links.

You can also sign up for recruitment through the form on our website to receive updates throughout the recruitment period.

What if I don't know anyone?

You're not alone! Most of our members joined recruitment without knowing anyone in the sorority. Recruitment is designed to help you meet new people, make connections, and find a community where you feel comfortable being yourself. By the end of the process, you'll likely have made friends regardless of the outcome.

Do I have to attend every Recruitment event?

No! While attending more events gives you a better opportunity to get to know our members and vice versa, we understand everyone has different schedules. We simply encourage you to attend as many events as you can.

Is there a limit to how many new members can join each semester?

No! There’s no set limit on how many new members we welcome each semester. We’re always excited to meet new women and grow our sisterhood. Each potential new member is considered individually based on fit, values, and connection with our community.

What if I rush but decide not to continue? Can I come back next semester?

Absolutely! There’s no pressure to join. If you decide during recruitment that it isn’t the right time for you, you’re always welcome to come back and meet us again during a future Recruitment period.
